Holistic Health & Wellness Initiative
One in Every 10's signature holistic health and wellness initiative designed exclusively for women with PCOS or fibroids. This comprehensive program addresses the root causes of hormonal imbalances through evidence-based alternative therapies, lifestyle interventions, and culturally responsive wellness education.
To eliminate health disparities experienced by BIPOC women with PCOS and fibroids by providing accessible, culturally competent holistic wellness services that address the environmental, nutritional, and lifestyle factors contributing to hormonal dysfunction, while fostering intergenerational healing through mother-daughter prevention programs.
Understanding the scope of the problem and environmental justice context
PCOS affects an estimated 8-13% of women of reproductive age globally, with BIPOC women experiencing disproportionately severe symptoms
Black women with PCOS face higher rates of insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease risk, and roughly a fourfold higher risk of type 2 diabetes overall for women with PCOS
By age 50, more than 80% of Black women and nearly 70% of white women have developed uterine fibroids, with Black women diagnosed about 4 years earlier on average
Nutrition and lifestyle support for hormonal conditions remains scarce: only 14% of resident physicians feel adequately trained to provide nutrition counseling
BIPOC communities face compounded environmental health risks that exacerbate hormonal conditions:
Higher exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals through personal care products and industrial facilities
Limited access to nutrient-dense foods: an estimated 23.5 million people lived in low-income areas more than a mile from a supermarket (2009 estimate)
Increased air pollution exposure, with Black populations carrying a PM2.5 burden 54% higher, and Hispanic populations 63% higher, than the population overall
